The Chemistry education group at Homi Bhabha Centre for Science Education (TIFR) conducts various activities related to teaching and learning of chemistry at higher secondary and undergraduate level. Most of these activities are conducted as part of Indian Chemistry Olympiad programme and the National Initiative on Undergraduate Science (NIUS) program in chemistry. The work involves programmes for students as well as for teachers.
Some of the key domains covered, especially for teachers’ programme are:
- designing problems in theoretical areas with emphasis on context and conceptual understanding
- taking a critical look at learning in chemistry laboratories
- assessment (experimental as well as context/conceptual problems)
The members of the group are involved with generating instructional resources for chemistry education at higher secondary and undergraduate level.
